Columbia County Sheriff’s Office implements eSOPH to assist in filling multiple corrections deputy and support staff positions.

St. Helens, OR.  On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, representatives from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office signed a 12-month license agreement to use eSOPH, Miller Mendel’s background investigation software system. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is currently recruiting for eight Corrections Deputies, three corrections technicians and one patrol deputy. eSOPH will be used to expedite the hiring process of these positions.

On behalf of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the eSOPH transition project was led by Sheriff Jeff Dickerson, Undersheriff Andy Moyer and Lieutenant Steve Salle’. As of July 22, 2014, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is the third agency in the state of Oregon to transition its pre-employment background investigation process to eSOPH.

Columbia County is a rural community about 18 miles north of downtown Portland, Oregon. The county includes about 50,000 citizens within six incorporated cities and the unincorporated areas of the county. The county seat is St. Helens, Oregon. The county was named for the Columbia River, which forms its eastern and northern borders. Columbia County has the longest stretch of Columbia River of any Oregon county. The sheriff’s Office is under the leadership of Sheriff Jeff Dickerson, currently in his second term of office. The sheriff’s office includes nine enforcement division positions, 24 corrections division positions, six non-sworn positions, nine sworn reserve deputies and over 30 other volunteers. Columbia County citizens recently approved a three-year tax levy to provide funding to bring the jail from twenty-five local inmate beds to one-hundred, causing the need to hire additional corrections personnel a mandatory task to meet state and federal jail guidelines.
